There is an area of philosophy known ass radical relativism, where it is stated that we all create our own realities, independant of other's subjective experiences. While I don't presonally subscribe to this idea, it begs an interesting question for musician and non musician. Does music shape our individual reality, or does it merely reflect our own reality that we are attempting to share with others. For myself, I find that both sides of that equation are valid. I have listened to music, and found my mind wnadering to "distant places" of thuogh and experience, whcih would indicate that music was shaping who I am. I also use music to communicate with others, although in my case this communication tends towards a purposefully obscuring abstract. Strange in this instance that music can be both mask and window. For other musicians here, what is your opinion or experience?
The question that is then begged in my mind is what exaclty is it that happens at the boundary that we experience and create and the experiences and creations of others? How do we cross those lines, considering that we may have radically different experiences from one another. Do we even truly create our own reality, or is there some reality that fits the common perception, and where does music fit into all this?
